With a background as a physiotherapist Mela has always had an appreciation of the human form. When sculpting, she draws on family and friends as her models. The process involves taking a multitude of photos from all angles for accuracy of the lines of a pose. She now work almost entirely in bronze as she finds the initial process of sculpting in clay enables her to get great definition & subtlety. She has a great admiration for the medium of bronze because of its intrinsic beauty and timelessness. She endeavours to capture the character of the individual; in the end it is the essence of the person that is most important for her to translate into the work. Mela’s bronze sculptures are in various collections in Asia, Europe, U.S.A and Australia.
