Colleen South
Born and bred on the Sunshine Coast, Colleen has worked in and around Brisbane for most of her life. Now based in Brisbane, she juggles her artmaking, working as a special education teacher and family commitments. She studied art as a subject throughout her secondary and tertiary education but undertook her serious art training when studying under Lola McFarlane, life member of the then Sculptors Society of Queensland. Colleen's work is diverse and includes drawing, painting - especially mixed media, sculpting in Ciment fondue, clay and bronze. Colleen finds inspiration for her art in people, places and cultures especially when travelling to fascinating places including to Paris, Prague, Tuscany, Mexico, the Rockies in Canada and the red center of Australia - Alice Springs, Uluru and Kata Juta. She has had several solo and numerous group exhibitions and has works in private collections worldwide. The works in this current exhibition are all of a musical theme as music is often the catalyst for her creative process.
