In 2003 Queensland sculptor and founding President of Society of Sculptors Qld, Leonard Shillam donated to the State Library of Queensland a collection of papers, catalogues and photographs relating to his life and work, and that of his late wife Kathleen. They now form part of the Australian Library of Art.

Len and Kath are perhaps best known for their sculpture of the Pelicans in the water mall outside the Queensland Art Gallery, but their work can be found in public spaces around south east Queensland and in collections throughout the country. Ranging from large scale abstract works to intimate small sculptures of animals, the Shillams’ work has wide appeal.

The full story makes fascinating reading and can be seen at: www.slq.qld.gov.au/oh/shillam

The site includes a wonderful collection of images of Len & Kath’s work as well as video clips of live interviews.
